To end traffic fatalities involving its vehicles, Honda Motor Co. Ltd announced that it would develop technology that allows its level 3 self-driving capabilities to operate at any pace under the speed limit on roads by the second half of the 2020s.
In March 2021, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. was the first automaker globally to sell a car equipped with level 3 self-driving capability. The global market size of autonomous vehicles increased significantly in 2022 and would increase further in 2023 in comparison to that in the previous years, according to GlobalData.
Level 3 self-driving technology, often referred to as conditional driving automation, enables drivers to conduct certain activities behind the wheel such as viewing movies or using smartphones, but only under specific circumstances. Honda Motor Co. Ltd aims at zero fatalities in traffic incidents involving its automobiles or motorcycles globally by 2050.
